One of the first things I wanted to do when I received my Microsoft Surface was to learn how to create a screen shot. I wanted to be able to create screen shots for the tutorials I create and to share pictures of my start screen with other Surface owners. Unfortunately there is no print screen button on the Touch Cover keyboard. Luckily, I discovered an easy way to create and share Microsoft Surface screenshots! See the simple steps below.

How to create Microsoft Surface Screenshots

Take a Microsoft Surface screenshot by following these steps:

  1. Open the application, web page, or whatever screen you would like to capture.
  2. Press and hold the Windows Button, then press the Volume Down Button. Refer to the image above for the button locations.
  3. Notice that the screen dims momentarily to let you know that a screenshot was taken.
  4. Locate your screenshots in the Photos application. A quick way to do this is to go to Start Page > Photos > Pictures Library > Screenshots. You can also find the screen shots in the folder “C:Users<username>My PicturesScreenshots“.

Just like any other photo in your library, you can share your screenshot photos using any installed sharing application. To do so, open the photo you wish to share, swipe from the right edge of the screen, press the share button, and then select from one of the available sharing applications.

How to use Microsoft Surface Screenshots

I create screenshots mainly for creating articles or tutorials. I also use screenshots to share features of the device or to document a problem I discovered. Another possible use is to take a screen capture of a web site that you find interesting enough to share. Instead of just sharing a link to the site, you can share a photo of the home page.

Do you have other uses for Microsoft Surface screenshots? Have any other tips you would like to share? Let us know!
