Microsoft Surface RT gets Google Search, Google Apps Access

When Google released its search app for Windows 8 last month, it didn’t include support for tablets running Windows RT like the Microsoft Surface. Google has now released the Windows RT version of the Google Search app. Key features are listed below:

  • Google Search box – Type your search right from the app home screen, so you can find the answers you need more quickly.
  • Voice Search – Use your microphone to ask Google anything and see the answer instantly.
  • Image Search – Watch images load into a beautiful full-screen grid. Select images you like or swipe through to see more results.
  • Search Charm – By installing the Google Search app, you can easily access Google from the Search Charm.
  • Instant Previews mode – Browse search results without having to visit each page.
  • View Your Searches – Swipe from the top to see the sites you visited most recently, categorized by keyword.
  • Google Apps page – Access all your favorite Google products from within the app with just the tap of an icon.
  • Google Instant – No need to press Enter – see results instantly as you type.

Since I have yet to convert over to using Bing and still primarily use Google for search, this app will be a welcomed addition to my ever growing collection of Windows RT apps. I especially like the fact that voice search is included as this will give me a quick method for searching the web.

I’m also interested in how the Google Apps “Page” will work. Many folks have been wanting Google Apps on the Microsoft Surface. While the Google Apps “page” might not be what folks are waiting for, hopefully it fits the bill while we wait for actual Windows RT Google apps.

Want to download the new Google Search app for Windows RT? You can download it from here. So far the app is getting four stars out of five at the Windows Store. Not bad…
